Hi my name is Emilio Arribas, son-in-law of Rene Vela. Our dear father, Rene left us to be with our mother and many beloved family members and friends. His parents had two boys and 5 girls and they lost their dad at a young age. The two brothers helped their mom raise their sisters and run the ranch in a small town in Mexico and later on emigrated to the US. He was just shy of 93 when he passed on November 4, 2022. He lived a full life and raised 4 children and 7 grandchildren. The last few years were tough on him, losing his wife, Bertha in 2019 and then in 2020 an amputated leg relegated him to a wheelchair but he was very strong and his family was there for him every step of the way. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. His biggest worry, however, was his youngest daughter, Diana Matthews, who lost her sight and ability to walk after six strokes. Her family is strong but have been struggling financially for a while. Steve, her husband, has been her caregiver and Isabella, their 7 year old daughter, has also helped. I am sure our dad would appreciate any donation for this GO FUND to go to his daughter’s family in lieu of flowers or charity donations. If you can donate to this fund in memory of our dad, the family would very much appreciate it. Our dad helped Diana’s family financially as well as spiritually as much as he could. His last wish was to have a private immediate family funeral which will take place soon at Voran funeral home in Dearborn. He will be missed very much but thankfully he is now resting in peace.
