Renee and Kennedy’s Journey

On Thursday January 5,2023, tragedy struck Renee and Kennedy when Renee took Kennedy to emergency because she was not feeling well still after trying to fight strep throat for almost a month and she seemed to be getting worse. Once there they started running tests to see what was wrong, after seeing the results the Doctor came in and told them that Kennedy had diabetes and she was in diabetic ketoacidosis. They were in shock!! The doctor started calling different specialists to see how to treat her because untreated, diabetic ketoacidosis can lead to loss of consciousness and, eventually, death.

They started running multiple IVs and got her stabilized enough to transfer her by ambulance to Yorkton hospital because no where else had a bed in their ICU. Once there she was hooked up to monitors, another IV was added to try and get all her counts back up to were they should be . She has to stay in the hospital for at least a week to teach her how to use insulin(which she will have to use forever now) and keep her sugars maintained before she is allowed to go home. This sudden event has put strain financially for them as they are both not able to work and also the new medical expenses that are required ( glucose tester, insulin, ambulance) to which Kennedy has no coverage . So if you could please send a little bit to ease their minds about how they are going to get through this unfortunate turn of events.
