Renee Bunt ~ End-of-Life Care & Final Expenses
Donation protected
Our mother, Renee, has been battling breast cancer since February 2020. After a long hard fight, Renee made the brave decision in October 2023 to cease treatment and focus on a higher quality of life and spending time with family. We are humbly asking for your help with final expenses as we prepare for her transition.
- About Renee -
Renee Hunt was born on April 17, 1966 to Edgar and Nancy Hunt in Lawrenceburg, TN. She grew up with seven siblings, and still today all eight Hunt children live in the same county in Tennessee near their mother. Renee’s father passed away in 1990 after his own battle with cancer.

After graduating from Loretto High School Renee married Nathan Bunt in 1984 and they raised two daughters, Leslie and Amanda, in Leoma, TN. Leslie now lives in Madison, AL and Amanda lives in Colorado Springs with her husband Ben and their children Violet and Ezra.

Renee is "Meme" to her "grandbabies" and she loves spending time with them playing, crafting, laughing, and has always enjoyed handmaking special things for them.

Renee has always had a knack for all things food and décor. She enjoys crocheting, gardening, making flower arrangements, and decorating her home with antiques and thrift store finds. She strives to make sure everyone is comfortable in her home. She has passed many of her skills and hobbies on to her daughters over the years.

- Renee's Cancer Journey -

Renee was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in late February 2020, just before the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the country. She (with her family) traveled 90+ miles roundtrip to receive chemotherapy treatments while the world was on lockdown. In the summer of 2020 she had surgery to remove the breast cancer tumor and bounced back incredibly quickly. She began an oral chemo treatment to keep the cancer away.
Unfortunately, in late 2021 the cancer had spread to a lymph node and she soon had to undergo daily radiation treatments (more 90+ mile driving each day). After radiation completed, Renee was so excited to ring the celebration bell at the cancer center. We thought her battle was over.

In spring 2023 a scan revealed that the cancer had returned with a vengeance. It had spread to more lymph nodes, her lungs, and her liver. Her oncologist was hopeful and Renee decided to once again have chemotherapy and radiation. The side effects were very difficult to deal with, but she pushed through. The new treatment killed the cancer in her lymph nodes and lungs, but the spots on her liver were not responding. The doctor made some adjustments and prescribed a new oral chemo medication. The new medicine made Renee very sick, but she pushed onward.
In October 2023 Renee was very ill. After being admitted to the hospital and undergoing many tests, the doctors shared the devastating news that the cancer had spread to Renee's brain. Renee made the very brave decision, together with her family and doctors, to cease treatment. We began hospice care at home. Her new focus is quality of life and without the side effects of the cancer medication she is more comfortable and enjoying her remaining time with family.
- Why We Need Your Help -
In addition to the emotional, mental, and physical strain Renee's cancer battle placed on her and her family, there has been a financial strain as well. As my sister and I looked over all the upcoming expenses we realized we need the help of our friends and community.
Donations received will primarily go towards cremation and funeral expenses. They may also help our family with things like medical supplies and bills, groceries, travel costs, and lost wages as we've all taken time off from work to be with Renee. Any funds remaining will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
This is the hardest thing any of us have had to do, and it's difficult to be vulnerable and ask for your help. Any donation is deeply appreciated and will go directly to Renee's end-of-life care and final expenses. Leslie and Amanda will be handling the disbursement of donations. If you prefer to send money to one of us directly, please reach out and let us know.
Kind words and prayers are also appreciated during this difficult time.
