RENEE CLARK:  Cancer and the End of a Journey

Donation protected
Renee is my 71-year-old mother who recently died of cancer.

Her trials and tribulations may not be anything outstanding to the world at large, but she is my mother, so they mean the world to me.

With just a high school degree, Renee proceeded through life, particularly through trying times with a sense of hope and will that perplexed me to no end.  While I am a habitual planner – anticipation and preparation are all I know - my mother is the exact opposite, preferring to deal with circumstances as they come.  Her unapologetic “…one day at a time,” approach drove me nuts, but now as her contribution to the world comes to an end, I’ve begun to realize that if I hadn’t been so stubborn, I could have benefited from instead of rejecting her point of view.

Our family was blind-sided with her initial diagnosis in August 2014, which forced her into retirement far before she was ready.  Still, with impressive defiance and the attitude of a supreme optimist she bravely subjected herself to radiation, chemo, and surgical intervention, despite the debilitating side effects brought on by each treatment.  Unfortunately, the disease metastasized and however valiant her efforts, they were no match against the aggression of a formidable opponent. After an admirable seven-year fight, her doctors pronounced her “end-stage” in March 2021 and in the irony of all ironies, suggested we take her quickly wanning future, “one day at a time.”

My mother, Renee, retired with a meager social security income of $13,500.  As I have disabling medical conditions myself with no income to supplement, I am unable to provide ANY type of send-off, let alone one worthy of my mother. Any contribution would be sincerely appreciated; donations will go toward cremation and burial costs.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about my mother and the fight she had no choice but to undertake.  She has my admiration and if you knew her personally, I'm sure she’d have yours, too.

P.S.  As this fund went live, the time I had remaining with my mother eroded to mere hours.  Your assistance is even more precious.

UPDATE -  Sunday, April 11, 2021:  Renee finally succumbed to uterine cancer @5:05pm.  Mum, you will forever be missed and never forgotten by so many, but no one more than me.
