Hello, my name is Laura, Renee’s oldest daughter.
Monday morning started in a way that no body wants. My mom was disoriented and called me to come get her from her job. I rushed her to the ER because of stroke symptoms. I had to argue with her for twenty minutes in the parking lot since she refused to get out of my car worried about finances and lack of health insurance. I finally convinced her to get out of the car and into the ER, but she was very angry with me saying, "Next time, I am calling your sister, NOT YOU!" (oh mom*)
And here we are now..
After CT scans (multiple), MRI’s, EKG’s, blood tests, blood tests and then more blood tests, everything came back looking good except for the white blood cell count. It was quite high and raised a lot of questions.
Fast forward to now and what we have discovered after many tests and now a biopsy, they have found she has CLL- chronic lymphocytic leukemia. She currently does not need treatments but has to be monitored every three months at a cancer treatment center. We are also still awaiting results from a biopsy they have taken from her lymph nodes. Needless to say we have a lot to learn and research here in the next few months. I will certainly inform with any updates we receive.
Now if you know my mom you know she is about as stubborn as they get. She had no clue I am doing this and probably would be very “mad” at me again.
She is a 5th and 6th grade teacher at a little private school and dedicates every ounce of herself to teaching and “her” kids. She loves every last one of them.
She also has got to be one of the most selfless moms there ever was. She has sacrificed and gone with-out so many things and I have never once heard a complaint. I know and so does my sister Katie and brother Logan that we are the most important things in the universe to her along with the grandkids (which may trump us kids at times) ... but she has shown us that love-without-end daily since we were born.
My mom absolutely loves her job as a teacher, she makes very little and has no health insurance as a private school teacher. I’m not going to go on about hospital bills because they are insane and everyone knows this.
She has given of herself and been a caretaker of so many since she was young ( she’s the oldest of 7). I want to give to her and also give that opportunity to everyone else that loves her. Again she doesn’t know I am doing this. (I have had a lot of hours in the hospital)
