AnnEvertisements: Billboard in Time Square
Hello, welcome to our campaign for AnnE, hosted by the @awaefanprojects team on twitter!
After the success of our first billboard in Toronto and the positive response of Anne Nation and the cast members, we decided to go bigger and our new goal is now to fund enough for a billboard advertisement campaign in Time Square, New York City! Our main priority is to collect enough money for a billboard.

We want to do this for three reasons:
1. To promote Anne With An E’s season 3 premiere on Netflix. (If they won’t do it, we will.)
2. To raise awareness to the show as a whole in the hope of reaching those precious ‘demographics’.
3. To show the networks how loved AnnE is!

Anne With An E is a Canadian television series based on the beloved heroine of L. M. Montgomery’s ‘Anne of Green Gables’.
Despite being a period piece, set in the 19th century, Anne With An E offers a contemporary twist; with producer and writer the Emmy-Award winning Moira Walley-Beckett (’Breaking Bad’, ‘Flesh and Bone’) stating she wanted to move away from a ‘whitewashed view of history’. The end result is a dynamic and radiant re-telling of Anne Shirley Cuthbert’s story, with the introduction of progressive themes and contemporary issues yet maintaining the essence of the beloved literary character.
Produced and written by a predominantly female led team, the show addresses themes such as feminism, racism, LGBTQ+, indigenous history, homophobia, bullying, trauma (to name but a few). The narrative and storylines are beautifully written and executed; it truly is a rarity and there is no show like it on TV. Viewers of all ages can take something away from AnnE thus it is no wonder it is loved by fans across the globe.
Unfortunately, on the morning of 25th Nov, CBC and Netflix surprisingly announced via social media that this show would be cancelled after season 3. With the season 3 finale only airing 12 hours prior and the entire season yet to drop on Netflix, fans and news outlets alike were shocked. Not only does this show have a huge global appeal but it was more popular each season and saw season 3 as its most critically acclaimed yet. Additionally, the show has dominated the Canadian Screen Awards winning ‘Best Drama Series’ in both 2018 and 2019. 2019 also saw the extremely talented lead Amybeth McNulty win ‘Best Actress, Drama Series’ as well as Geraldine James and R.H.Thompson win ‘Best Supporting Actress, Drama’ and ‘Best Supporting Actor, Drama’ at the Canadian Screen Awards.
Since it’s shock cancellation, #RenewAnneWithAnE has been trending non-stop on Twitter, amassing 1 million tweets within 10 hours of the announcement and trending at #1 worldwide. A variety of other AnnE renewal campaigns are also circulating on twitter, totalling between 11 to 15 million tweets within the first week. Fans from all around the world have expressed their love and disappointment at the shows ending and are fighting hard for another season, with many storylines still to be wrapped up.
Despite the successful and growing #RenewAnneWithAnE twitter campaign, now currently at over 6 million tweets, we are looking to branch out. AnnE’s cancellation is in part due to a lack of advertising, with the majority of fans finding out about the show through scrolling on Netflix or via fans social media; therefore we are looking to fundraise enough for a billboard/bus campaign in order to encourage viewership for when Season 3 premiers on Netflix on January 3rd.
