Rental assistance for disabled family of 3
Donation protected
Hi, My name is Leslie! I am 34 years old and I was a preschool teacher for 7 years. I absolutely loved my job and teaching children. In August 2020 my spine gave out on me and I had two herniated disks that needed surgery. I have had discs go out before, but they healed on their own when I was younger. I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease, neuropathy, arthritis, nerve damage and chronic pain. My medical issues are early onset and usually don't happen to younger people. I was told it was genetics, and I will continue to degrade and worsen over time. I've had to have 3 surgeries to try to repair the damage. After two discectomies it was determined I needed 4 levels of my neck vertebrae fused. After these surgeries, it was determined that I have chronic pain and permanent nerve damage. I now walk with a cane and wear back braces to function. My right arm is degenerating faster from the nerve damage, and I have lost feeling completely as well as some of my fine motor skills. Unfortunately, I could no longer continue my job as a preschool teacher.
I have had to wait through the process to receive disability, and was finally given a fully favorable decision. My illness caused my family to accrue a lot of debt and we could no longer afford to live in our home. My husband, my daughter, and myself have had to move back in with my father in law, but we need a place of our own. My husband suffers from a degenerative mental illness as well and is now my full time caregiver. I have a daughter who is about to graduate high school and is working towards starting college next fall as well.
We just need some help with moving expenses, as both my husband and myself are disabled, we do not receive much income to be able to move and we have to move out soon. Any donations will be used for deposits and turning utilities on. Any little bit helps! Thank you so much!
