#RENTRELIEF for DVSurvivors
Donation protected
All around the world COVID-19 has forced us into a state of social distancing. For people who are surviving violence (either domestic and/or sexual) in their families or relationships, these “Stay at Home” orders create increased anxiety and danger at a time when the vulnerable need connection now more than ever.
While we are all currently faced with difficulties, however, this delicate population faces some of the most insurmountable challenges right now. Persons affected by this silent epidemic of violence have specific needs around confidentiality for safety and are more vulnerable to economic and health insecurities. I know this reality all too well because I am a SURVIVOR who is now a THRIVER.
That is why I have partnered with Fred Joseph to expand his #RENTRELIEF effort to support survivors and here’s how it works:
1. If you self identify as a survivor (regardless of current status) and can’t make rent, have an unexpected bill, or are in a jam because your hours were cut or you lost your job, fill out this form. Or if it is safe for you to post publicly, you can respond to the thread on @MHSexpert’s Instagram or Twitter with your need CashApp, Venmo, PayPal, or Zelle.
2. Transactions will be posted anonymously using the #SurvivorToThriver on @MHSexpert’s Twitter and/or Instagram stories each daily so people know where donations are going.
3. If you’d like to join us and helping survivors who are in need of a few hundred dollars for rent, groceries, or bills, donate to this GoFundMe.
During this time of social distancing and isolation, we can still come together to support one another.
GoFundMe donated $5,000 to kick this off. That’s enough for 25 people who are $200 short.
Can we get to $10,000? That means we’ll be able to help 50 people during this difficult time.
20,000? That means 100 people can make rent.
We understand that times are tough, that these are only microgrants that will not solve the underlying challenges but we are here to help and WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU. If you are in need of additional resources, please got to the website and if you are in immediate danger contact your local authorities or call 911. We recognize that these the experience of interpersonal violence are traumatic and have serious consequences for the emotional, physical and sexual well-being of those individuals involved.
**We want to help as many people as possible, so the max grant is $200. We will not keep any of the funds. We will post as many transactions publicly as possible in our Instagram Stories with respect to survivors' wishes. Every dollar that comes into this GoFundMe will be sent to people who need help.**
