RePlace the Planters Overlook Intersection Repair

Donation protected

Join your neighbors, build community and come to an Overlook block party this summer!

Re-paint the intersection repair with us this summer as we brighten the transportation-themed elements that celebrate Overlook's history at our Intersection Repair on N Overlook Blvd/N Concord Blvd. Started in 2011, this neighbor-developed and installed place-making project is ready to add the marks of the next generation of Overlook neighbors and you’re invited!

It’s hard to describe how much fun it is to close the streets, spread out with some paint and a hundred or so kids! The connections made here will nurture you through the coming years and you’ll have a beautiful piece of the neighborhood to share with your friends and visitors. This almost-famous piece was even featured in the Disney film “Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made.”

Participation is open to all abilities, ages and artistic talent; showing up to be together is what counts!
And if you cannot participate physically, you can support this project financially. With no group sponsorship this year, we must crowdsource for this neighborhood resource and ask you to contribute as you can. The cost of paint has doubled since our original paint day and your donations will leave a colorful mark on the neighborhood!

Designed and installed by neighbors in 2012, this project is a collaboration with City Repair's Village Building Convergence . Participants come from all over the world to see how Portlanders are shaping their neighborhoods and lend a hand and you can too! Running our project through the VBC nets us a 50% discount on paint as well.

In addition to repainting the intersection, we are replacing the street furniture that added safety to this intersection of 5 corners. The Neighborhood Greenways of N Concord Boulevard and N Overlook Boulevard can bring cars and cyclists head to head and the street planters help separate traffic for greater safety and calm. By creating a narrower crossing for pedestrians, neighbors, area workers and commuters also benefit from the intersection redesign. The street graphics brighten and break up an extremely large concrete slab and remind drivers to watch for walkers, babies and doggos, as well as the North Portland cyclists who commute through the intersection.
