Repairs to overgate hospice after a break in

"We are heartbroken to share the news that our Hospice was broken into over the weekend, leaving thousands of pounds worth of damage in our Big Build garden hub, and crucially, our garden counselling pod and Spiritual Space.

The thieves struck in the early hours, and were thankfully seen in action on CCTV by our night staff who called the police straight away, before standing next to patients’ beds to ensure their safety in case the thieves made their way into the Hospice building itself. We can’t put into words how scared our staff were as they watched the chaos unfold before their eyes, but we are so proud of their bravery and dedication to those in our care.

Many of the items in our Big Build hub were stolen, such as computers, a large TV screen, and even a kettle and bottles of alcohol - leaving the whole Hospice team in shock, anger and disbelief. Windows were smashed and items strewn across the garden.

These garden spaces are calm, loving and safe spaces where we support grieving family members, patients learning to cope with their terminal illnesses, and raise funds to build a new hospice for our community. We are devastated by the damage caused to these beautiful spaces, not to mention the feeling of safety our staff and patients deserve.

While our counselling services has been affected this week, our care at the Hospice has not changed and our patients remain our top priority. "
