Reparations to help Connie & family buy a home
Donation protected
This is a personal reparations campaign for my generous and always-upbeat friend Connie.
Connie and her children need our help. She is a single Black mother, lives in inadequate housing and needs support to purchase a house. Her determination to succeed and provide for her three children and her community in the face of much hardship inspired me to set up this page.
Growing up in a divorced family living below the poverty line, Connie dropped out of HS, but went back to get her GED years later.
Connie was inspired by her grandmother and wanted to offer other people the kind of nourishing and delicious meals her grandmother made for her.
After several tries, Connie passed her GED and continued her education in the culinary industry. She is studying now to become a Registered Dietitian.
Connie is hard-working and determined to keep moving forward despite her struggles. She inspires me every day because she maintains a positive outlook, determination, kindness, and even a mindfulness practice, through all of her struggles.
Due to her early lack of support, and constant struggle to get ahead, she remains in a place where she has little income and support for herself and her family.
Connie works tirelessly to run a small food bank in Northeast DC called Plenty to Eat. She spends her time making connections with other local organizations doing this food insecurity work, and to find grants to keep the doors of Plenty to Eat open. All this, while she herself struggles to make ends meet for her family.
In addition to all the time and effort that Connie devotes to her non-profit and continued education, she works hard to be a good mother. Connie knows that a key part of her role as family head is bringing the family together to share dinner.
She uses these moments to listen to the interests and concerns of every family member - and to ask each of them, children and grandchildren alike: “How are you going to help other people?”
As a result of Connie’s example, each one of them, including the youngest grandchildren, is already taking concrete steps to help others. Connie is their role model, and continues to be to us all.
Here are my asks for you:
➡️ Can you offer some amount of reparations to begin to offset the unfairness of Connie’s situation?
➡️ Can you help support Connie’s basic living expenses?
➡️ Can you help fund a mortgage for her to buy a house?
Please give the maximum amount you can to support Connie. Please give until you feel you have made a difference in the debt owed to the descendants of slaves in this country.
Consider becoming a monthly donor to her reparations campaign and/or give to her food bank Plenty to Eat.

Thank you for helping us support Connie and all the people who need nourishment and healing.
I really appreciate you.
