Replace Megan’s Damaged Cochlear Implant

Saturday night (10/3/20) I went out to the parking lot where we live and encountered a man who was assaulting Megan who had just finished working. The man had body-slammed Megan on her head, and directly on coil of her Cochlear Implant (where her implant attaches to her head). Luckily I had my phone and started to video. As the man threw punches Megan fought back and chased after him as he tried to escape. Megan & I struggled with the man but he got away in a car with another man who I later found out had tried to rob Megan at gun point. She didn’t have anything on her so when they tried to get her car keys she fought back.
Megan had a significant laceration on her head & concussion. It was surreal to watch a doctor staple her scalp back together. Her external  Cochlear Implant processor was smashed to pieces, so they brought in an ASL interpreter so she could communicate at the hospital. 
That night the police were able to find one man and the car because of the video I was able to capture on my phone.
We were called into the police station Sunday (10/5) for further questioning and to ID the men. The man who they had in custody was officially arrested and has a $100,000 bond. I got a call just before midnight from a dectective & he informed me they found the 2nd man in Hillsborough County. He was arrested and charged with armed robbery with a firearm and will not be able to bond out of jail.
We were able to to put Megan’s implant back together using a few bandaids, but it still not functioning properly.  Several parts will need to be replaced including the main processor. Our best bet would be to replace the entire unit.  However, her processor which is over 4 years old is out of date & an upgrade is needed. With any money that we raise we hope to repair her old processor or upgrade to a new one.
