Replace Our Neighbors Car
Donation protected
Friends & Neighbors,
We are raising money in an effort to replace our neighbor's mid-70's classic Monte Carlo that was firebombed in the middle of the night on Nov. 14th.
While it is still only speculation--it feels very much like this is a racially motivated crime.
(For friends outside of the neighborhood,) this occurred in Mount Baker, an historically black neighborhood in Seattle. Mount Baker is part of the Rainier Valley, an area in Seattle well-known for its diversity.
The police officer that responded says she's never seen a crime like this in this neighborhood before. There were valuables in the car that were not stolen. The motivation for this act was pure destruction.
Given the timing of this, the location, and reports of numerous other hate crimes currently occurring in Seattle, it feels resonable to assume this event may also be racially motivated.
We want to come together and let our neighbor know we will not tolerate this kind of crime in our neighborhood. We want to support him any way we can--starting with replacing this car he refurbished.
Any additional funds raised will go to a local organization fighting for civil rights and social justice here in Seattle.
Regardless of your support, thank you so much for being a treasured part of our community & extended community.
We appreciate you and you are loved.
