Replacing Damaged Fence for Khmer Buddhist Temple

Donation protected

On September 22nd, of 2021, the Khmer Theravadin Buddhist Temple on Portland Avenue E. was subject to an assault. At midnight on the Khmer holiday (Pchum Ben), the perpetrators were attempting to cut through the fence and enter the temple. An Asian nun, aged 67, came out to confront them and had asked the group to stop. She was met with violence; she was beaten by the group of three on the head and chest and was choked. Fortunately, she is in a stable condition, however with sharp pains in the chest, ribs, head and blurry vision. As the perpetrators fled, they damaged the fence to the Temple. Ramming their vehicle into the fence. There's yellow police tape on the fence because there's an ongoing police investigation. More to the story here: Reddit or Tacoma News Tribune
Currently, the gate is suspended by metal wires.
This isn’t simply about the fence. This is about the breach of security in a space that has always been safe. A place for the community to pray and reconcile with one another. This is about the harm done to the members of our community. This is about the way they preyed on our vulnerable members. This is about the fear that they have further instilled into the hearts of the Asian community.

All your donations will be going towards funding to replace the front metal gates at the Khmer Theravadin Buddhist Temple (1420 E 44th St, Tacoma, WA 98404)
