Replacing Tom's Musical Equipment
Donation protected
On January 7th, my dear friend's husband, Tom Ball, was the victim of a professional burglary of his car while he was working. As a music teacher at a Catholic school, Tom moves from school to music stores to gigs to home while needing to carry many high-end instruments and specialized equipment. In addition to a professional trombone and professional euphonium that he had securely locked in his trunk that day, other items that were taken include a laptop, microphone, a few small electronics, additional professional mouthpieces, etc., and $350+ of sheet music. This loss totaled almost $11,000 when all was said and done. The insurance company has erroneously decided that musical instruments depreciate and have a limited lifespan--they do not always (Stradavarius anyone?!). They are agreeing to pay out the claim at 33%--after the family's $1700 deductible is met. This family has already been hit hard by COVID. You can imagine that music lessons, a substantial source of family income as both Tom and my dear friend Grace teach private lessons, all but dried up for months and months. And gigs--another income stream--for Tom? What's live entertainment these days? So, this loss, which would be substantial in any case, is absolutely devastating right now. Tom and Grace are the parents to five children, devoted to their church and community, and could simply use a little help to recover from this loss.
