Representing LLego Boston in 2023 Boston Marathon
I'm running in the 2023 Boston Marathon!!
Hello friends, family and all prospective supporters. My name is Jose Carlos Barbosa and I have been calling Boston home for the past 22 years. I have always been active in the community by volunteering for various organizations throughout Boston through my job and networks; this allows me to give back to a city that has given me everything and shaped me to be the person I am proud to put forward today.
I have always been a physically active person; doing Tae Kwon Do from middle school and throughout high school, playing soccer in middle school, playing pick up basketball with friends after work and even attempted to play football in College. Running by itself was not something I enjoyed at first but growing up, running the Boston Marathon was always a bucket list item for me.
I run now faithfully after joining a local run club, Live Fit Army (LFA) put together by a local community builder whose mission is to empower others to improve their cardiovascular health through running. It was with LFA where I found a community of like-minded individuals who take charge of their mental and physical health through running. Running is a form of therapy for me where in the course of a run, I let go of everyday stressor, clear my head and think through things more clearly. Running in my neighborhood, specifically, allows me to show other folks like myself that it is ok to go out and enjoy a walk/run at your own pace.
This year I am honored to represent LLEGO Boston as they afford me the opportunity to fulfill my dream of running the Boston Marathon. LLEGO was formed in April 2017 with a mission to unite the knowledge and experience of Latino emergency first responders and to promote diversity in law enforcement. LLEGO Boston help individuals prepare physically, academically and mentally to pass the rigorous police academies successfully.
With your donation, I hope to continue to give back to a great local organization, while also crossing off a major bucket list item. Thank you in advance and happy running!
