ReRun Kennel Iditarod 2025

Update: Wow we are so speechless and grateful for the outpouring of support! We appreciate each and every person who has donated to help offset our race costs. While Iditarod itself was $15-20k, any additional funds are going 100% to our year-round dog food and veterinary costs. We are so thankful!!

ReRun Kennel is a small sled dog racing kennel owned by Justin and Kailyn Olnes, located just north of Fairbanks, AK. About 70% of the dogs at our kennel originated from the Fairbanks animal shelter or other rescues around the state. Despite their different backgrounds, they all have a love for running and seeing new trails! In the last couple of years, the ReRun dogs have successfully completed many middle-distance races. This year, Justin has signed up for the 1000-mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. We are excited to see what our dogs are capable of!

The race has many associated costs, and altogether we've calculated the season will cost us around $20,000. Sled dogs burn about 15,000 calories a day when running, so most of those costs will be food! Throughout the season, we will feed 2,400 lbs of salmon, 4,000 lbs of beef, and dozens of bags of high-quality sled dog kibble. In addition, the dogs go through hundreds of booties that they wear on their feet to protect them from snow and ice. Once we collect all the necessary food and gear, we will package it up and ship it out to the remote communities along the trail that are only accessible by plane, snowmachine, or dog team!
