Rescue dogs that I have taken in with medical care

Hi my name is Debbi. I have been taking in and rehoming animals here on Maui for over 40 years. Now that I have retired I am on a fixed income and due to the housing crisis and landlords not renting to folks with animals I have been taking in a lot lately. The vet expense is getting overwhelming and I will not rehome them unless they are healthy, spayed and neutered which the prices now are outrageous. I currently have a 5 month old puppy who needs vaccines and spayed. Then I just took in 2 senior dogs that both need spayed. One has 2 large mammary tumors that need to be removed and hopefully they aren’t cancerous and the other has severe dental and numerous teeth that need to be removed. The vet has quoted over $5000 for all of this. I also have elderly and handicapped rescue dogs of my own who can’t be rehomed. I plan to start a nonprofit dog rescue and provide help to the community to spay and neuter there dogs so we don’t continue to have an overcrowded shelter but it’s going to take time and money to accomplish this also.
