Rescuing horses so they can rescue people

WHAT WE DO
We rescue horses who are injured, abused, or abandoned, heal & retrain them to do equine therapy for traumatized people. Many of the horses are ex-racehorses who have been hurt. We rehabilitate them and then train them to be healers for people who have been through struggles themselves. It requires a lot of time, patience, and funds to repair these majestic creatures and to bring them to trust that the world can be a loving happy healthy place. Ironically, it takes much less time for these beautiful horses to teach people with trauma the same thing.
HOW DO HORSES HEAL PEOPLE?
Often deep trauma cannot be accessed with words, talking, medications, or mainstream treatments. Equine therapy provides a unique way to use the healing power of presence and the awareness of complete acceptance and nonjudgment by a regal and beautiful animal. Horses have an uncanny and unique ability to read and respond to our true emotions, to adapt their behavior, and to bring us into self-awareness. Experiencing the trust and rapport of such a grand animal, interacting and working with the horse seems to provide a kind of mental reset that kicks off a conscious & present state of mind. Sometimes people have been in "fight and flight" for so long they forget what life is like without it. Witnessing someone finally let go of all that stress and be totally "there", in-the-moment, with all their anxiety evaporated away, completely engaged with the horse- is absolutely magical!
We can't think of a better way to heal traumatized people than with damaged horses who have learned to be loved and trust.
ABOUT US:
Eddita is a qualified social worker with a background in high clearance security. Ed' has seen a lot of trauma over the years and its effects on people, both in her work and her own personal history. Ed has a passion for helping those fallen from strength back to safety. A true horse whisperer, with her award-winning expertise in horsemanship, her formidable drive, and caring perseverance, Ed can rehabilitate horses that others would not even attempt to help. Ed has combined her talents and qualifications towards a passion for equine therapy to treat: suicide prevention, PTSD, rehabilitation, and mental health issues.
Nell is a registered nurse with a background of decades of experience in critical care, emergency, ICU, pediatrics, and holds a post-graduate certificate in mental health. Nell has seen the horrific results of suicide attempts, domestic violence, spinal injury, and physical trauma on both adults and children. She left nursing to work as a holistic healer, intuitive, and animal communicator and has a special love for rescuing horses. Nell has raised money over the years for "Pets in the Park" charity organization. Nell believes that it can take just one equine session to give someone the essential hope and belief that their life can be worth living. She has a passion to help people in healing: suicide risk, depression, anxiety, addiction, severe illness, physical and mental trauma, and abuse recovery, in adults, kids and teens.
WHAT FUNDING DO WE NEED?
Currently, we have 7 horses we are working with and 2 have already been used for equine therapy. 4 of our special horses would most likely eventually have been put down for dog meat due to injury, malformation, anxiety, and low weight- but we have bought or rescued them and given them a greater purpose.
We need funding for: horse feed, farrier, vet, physical therapy, horse rugs, medicines, tack, hay, straw, fencing, transport, insurance, and equipment.
We need funding to: refurb our stables and yards; build a wheelchair ramp to mount the horses for those on wheels; pack a sand arena to care for the horses' hooves and create less tension on injured horses; and purchase a 4 horse float so we can take the horses to those who need them in other areas.
Even if you donate just $2 today, this could help save a life (and a horse) tomorrow.
