Docs Not Cops Glasgow Presents:
Help us Fundraise! Resisting the Hostile Environment: Training day
When is it?:
7th March 2020
Who are we?:
We are Docs not Cops Glasgow. We work with the broader Docs not Cops movement in the UK to dismantle barriers to healthcare created by the UK Government’s “hostile environment”
We believe that health is a right and not a privilege, and we exist to ensure that all patient’s rights are protected, especially those pushed into precarity by UK Government immigration policies.
In our current political climate it is more vital now than ever that healthcare workers are aware they should not have to police the people they treat and that no one should suffer the indignity having their identity questioned when accessing the healthcare they are entitled to.
Drawing on our own experiences as well as those from like-minded organisations and from individuals directly impacted by the hostile environment, it is clear that healthcare workers receive very little training on the hostile environment and asylum system.
What:
We aim to address this significant gap by organising a training day specifically for healthcare workers on the impacts of the hostile environment in a health context and how healthcare workers can resist the hostile environment and its consequences.
The training day will consist of a series of interactive workshops organised into the following themes:
- An Introductory plenary :
What is the hostile environment?
What is the asylum system in the UK?
What is happening in Glasgow: Serco Evictions
- Mental Health & the Hostile Environment
- Detention Centres & Healthcare
- Barriers to Accessing Healthcare
GP registration
Translation services
Systemic/institutional racism in the NHS
We are incredibly excited to be involving a wide range of organisations including:
