Reskill America: The Great Rehiring Initiative
Tax deductible
COVID-19 has left over 40 million Americans without jobs over the last few weeks — disproportionately impacting low-income communities, women, and people of color.
We aim to raise over $500,000 and gift 5,000+ laptops to the communities who need them most to reskill and provide a blueprint to help them move forward.
Given the social unrest spreading across the country as a result of recent events, now is the time to take action towards closing the digital divide and mining the largest untapped resource for human potential.
Tens of thousands of people come to Career Karma and the Breaking Into Startups podcast every day seeking to reskill and find new jobs. Yet, many don’t have the laptops required to take advantage of online learning opportunities.
With more companies shifting towards remote work, there’s never been a better time to accelerate black and brown representation in tech.
By supporting underestimated groups and guiding them through the process of leveling up into tech careers, we can bring economic prosperity and technological innovation back into our local communities one household at a time.
Your contribution will enable us to purchase and distribute refurbished laptops to the vulnerable and underserved communities impacted by COVID-19.
Laptops will go to people who:
- Come from an underestimated background. This includes:
- Women, underrepresented racial and ethnic groups (African American/Black, Hispanic/Latinx, Native American/Alaskan, and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander), low-income households, people with disabilities, and veterans
- Have lost a job or have been furloughed due to COVID-19
- Have applied and been accepted into a job-training program (i.e., “bootcamp”) with a start date
- List of schools: https://careerkarma.com/schools
- Do not own a personal computer/laptop
If the above sounds like you and you'd like to start a career in tech and need a laptop to learn, apply here: https://airtable.com/shr6Q3bkmgwNEHjlz
Please give what you can—no contribution is too small. Every dollar donated (outside processing fees) goes directly toward the purchase and distribution of a laptop for a person in need. The more money we raise, the more laptops we can give, the more people we can reskill, and the more we can expand this program to enable diversity in tech.
To join the movement and keep up with updates, visit https://careerkarma.com/reskill-america and fill out the Reskill America pledge today.
Reskill America is a fiscally-sponsored project of the Kapor Center, an independent, registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Your donation is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. We will send you a receipt acknowledging your donation.
