Responder Child Health Charity

Summary and Mission
Responder Associação Saúde Criança is a children 's health charity based in Rio De Janeiro Brazil. The organization aids children who are below the poverty line and have life threatening or life altering medical conditions. These children often have unstable home lives and live in communities that do not have the resources to support their conditions. Responder applies a truly unique philosophy to allow these children and their families to build a healthy life. Instead of simply financing these children and their families, Responder creates a support structure around these families for 2 to 3 years. This support system contains financial support for families to get back on their feet. Children will have their medical needs paid for and families receive nutrition and suitable housing. In addition to financial support, Responder provides families with education, social communities, employment opportunities, and phycologists. With these layers of support, Responder gives families the resources to become socially and financially independent. By focusing on so many aspects of a family's life, and not blindly throwing money at their problems, Responder manages to completely change children and families' lives. Families, in 2 to 3 years, are able to transition from a struggling lifestyle to becoming completely self-sufficient.
Responder's incredible philosophy has been helping hundreds of families in Brazil. The demand for organizations like Responder in Brazil is much higher than in the U.S. In the U.S a household making below $26,000 a year is considered below the poverty line. However, In Brazil, 10% of the population makes under $3,000 a year. That 10% that does not have money for food and lives in run down Favelas (shanty towns) are the people Responder works to help.
The difference in wealth between the U.S and Brazil does provide an opportunity for Responder. The exchange rate of the Brazilian currency (Reis) compared to the dollar makes fundraising in the U.S exponentially more impactful. For $200 Responder can provide a family with medical treatment, food, water, housing, education, and all the other support systems listed previously for a month. In order to support a family for 2 to 3 years and completely change their lives, Responder only needs between $5000 to $7000.

- Responder is partnered with Brazil Foundation as a means of raising money internationally and making donations tax deductable
My goal for this project is to provide for 5 families in the Responders system. Each of the Responder's families receives aid for approximately 3 years. For these 3 years, families receive the full list of services provided by Responder. Below are donation recommendations that correspond to how long the donation will support a family. For each of these donations, you are getting a struggling family with an ill child through an extremely difficult moment in their lives. Any amount is appreciated and goes a long way to helping these struggling families
