Rest in Peace Miguel Arevalo

My dad Miguel, beloved amongst his family and friends and one of the best people I knew, sadly passed away on the fateful morning of October 25, 2022. In early August, he was feeling intense pains in his lower stomach area, so he decided it was time to check in with a doctor. Once he checked in, he never came back out. The faculty ran tests on him, and he was found to have kidney stones. But when they found the stones, they were also able to capture an image of a mass on his liver, and it all went downhill from there. Soon after, our family was informed that he was suffering from Stage 4 liver cancer; a case of poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma, which means it was a more intense and faster spreading form of cancer, at a 3% survival rate, and about 1 year left of life. The hospital kept running extensive tests on him for about 2 months, and a tube was attached to his body to regulate the body of fluids that the liver could no longer do. He lost a significant amount of weight in the process, and eventually, it was suggested he go into chemotherapy. He was sent home before the start of the treatment, but he was already so fragile and weak. The chemotherapy was only given for a few weeks, as we noticed significant side effects as a result, including loss of motivation, a drastic drop in his energy levels, and worst of all, blood clots on both his feet, resulting in loss of movement. He was rushed back to the hospital and remained there for 3 long weeks until we were informed that the chemotherapy had failed, and he only had about 1 month left to live. He was brought back home, with nurses attending to his every need, but he had already lost the majority of his bodily function. Only when he arrived back home were we informed that the cancer had spread to his lungs and bones, and he had lost the battle. It was very defeating for our family and friends to see someone so strong look so defeated and drained in only a few months. Only 4 days after returning from the hospital, he passed away in his sleep, at around 6:45 am. We thank God he was not in pain during the process, and he passed peacefully in his own home he worked so hard for. May God bless his soul.
