Restore 1st and 2nd amendment rights

Hello,

My name is Frank Melloni, and I represent Renaissance Firearms Instruction, a company dedicated to teaching Americans of all walks of life the safe and proper use of firearms.

Recently, the Supreme Court Decision in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen has overturned a series of unconstitutional laws and has allowed New Yorkers to now obtain a concealed carry permit.

In response, Governor Hochul enacted a training requirement, which involves the handling and live-fire (aka temporary possession) of a pistol. As possession was a crime without a permit, an exemption was made to allow for it during the course of training.

Additionally, a bill was signed that essentially treated semi-automatic rifles like handguns, striping the most common instruction tool from instructors and, in many cases, completely ending training courses with the most common of firearms.

In October of 2022, the Suffolk County Pistol Bureau informed several instructors that they were not "honoring" this exemption and would be subjecting law-abiding citizens to the "premise permit" process first, a process that adds an unnecessary burden and time restraint to those that just want to protect themselves.

In late 2022 RFI filed one lawsuit and joined another in an attempt to demonstrate the unconstitutionality of these repercussions that do nothing to stop crime and only hinder vital safety training. We feel that everybody has a right to "touch" a firearm and learn how to handle it safely before deciding if they want to take up the sport of shooting or purchase a firearm for self-defense.

In recent years the government has grown drunk with power, and if we don’t stand up for our most basic rights now, it will soon be too late.
