Help restore my parents’ house after severe flooding

Hi, my name is Brittany Engbrecht and I am the daughter of Mark & Khristy Butler.

On Tuesday, September 17, 2024 my parents left in the morning to go about their normal day. Upon receiving a text from their neighbours, their world was about to be turned upside down unknowingly. 3.5 hours after leaving home, 6ft of water consumed their basement, destroying everything. As my mom stood in disbelief, contents of their basement such as freezers, a hot water tank, their washer & dryer, and the memories of their past floated around as wreckage from the disaster. In a short period of time their home became inhabitable. The electrical panel became fully submerged in the flood, the furnace filled with water and became destroyed and all their appliances downstairs no longer usable due to the mass amount of water they all took in. Pictures were lost, furniture was lost and all the electrical damaged.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the flooding, their insurance policy only covers a very small portion ($10,000) of the $100,000 in damages and contents lost in the flood. Hours have been spent cleaning and demolishing the basement down to the studs in order to try everything and dry everything out. Mold has already begun to grow and it has left a foul smell.

With no help from insurance, my parents have been left to deal with the damages and navigate this process on their own. My parents would never ask for help but are always the first ones to help, however they can. My parents have been so helpful in my life with my family and I want to do whatever I can to help them in their time of need.

Thank you to everyone who has already helped with clean-up, meals and helping in any way they can. Please know this has not gone unnoticed and they are so grateful for everything and everyone.
