Restore Bill Dooper's Memorial Benches

Donation protected
Calling all Bill Dooper super fans!

After half a decade in the harsh environs of Leadville, Colorado, the Bill Dooper memorial bench and its compatriot require some much needed TLC.

We've already started this effort, with both benches already being sanded at their original makers before being refinished. The refinishing and the addition of stabilizers such that the benches can be freestanding will cost $1,000.

While we love the original memorial wood plaque carved in Leadville, the weather also took its toll on the plaque and, given the challenge of refinishing it, we'll be replacing it with a metal plaque that should last much longer. We're looking to replace the one plaque and also get one made for the second bench. These will cost roughly $500.

Why a second plaque? We'll be looking for new homes for these benches. One will surely be in Leadville, while we'll move the second to Silverton, hopefully in a place where Dooper's Hardrock family can take in the event as Dooper would have.

I have no doubt that the friends of Dooper can harness some of his can-do attitude and provide the world with two great spots to remember this super fan and super friend!
