My Livelihood was Stolen: Please help rebuild

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Carey Jordan.

I’m a CDL truck driver who recently took a leap of faith to start my own Veteran owned trucking company. For months, my family and I worked tirelessly to build this dream while I continued working for a company in Dallas. By early November, we were ready to take the next step. I gave my notice, left my job on November 8th, and prepared to start my journey as an owner-operator on November 25th.

On November 14th, we used our savings to purchase a red 2019 International LT semi-truck in Houston, TX. This truck wasn’t just a vehicle—it was the foundation of our future. We parked it at the TA Express Truck Center at 12602 South Freeway, Houston, TX 77047, paying for a two-week spot directly in front of the store while I finalized plans. I trusted this location because I had parked there before and even informed the staff about my temporary arrangements while traveling to Dallas.

On November 15th, we checked on the truck, and everything was fine. However, when we returned on November 19th to prepare for my new job, the truck was gone. At first, I thought it had been towed, but the clerks informed me it had been stolen.

Surveillance footage showed a man, dressed like a trucker, breaking the passenger-side lock, struggling to start the truck, and eventually driving off. The police later informed us that a trailer had also been stolen from the lot during the same timeframe.

When we spoke to the clerks, they casually said, “This happens,” as if truck theft was routine. This was a paid lot with cameras and supposed security measures, yet both a semi-truck and a trailer were stolen. To make matters worse, it seemed like the thief knew exactly which truck to target, walking directly to mine despite the many others parked there.

Desperate for answers, we contacted the company where we purchased the truck, hoping it had a tracker. Unfortunately, we were told trackers are only installed on financed vehicles—not those paid in full, like ours.

We are devastated. This truck represented our livelihood, our dreams, and our family’s future. We had a 10-day bobtail insurance policy, which we are currently discussing with the insurance company, but it may not cover theft. Meanwhile, we are left without a truck and trying to find a way to continue providing for our three children—especially with the holidays approaching.

Our immediate goal is to recover our truck and bring awareness to the risks that truckers face parking in this area. This truck was perfect for our business, and we had big plans to build something meaningful with it. Starting a GoFundMe wasn’t an easy decision, but we realized we had no other choice.

I’m a honest, hardworking person who did everything I could to ensure our success, only to have it stolen from us. This theft didn’t just take our truck—it disrupted our family, impacted our children, and jeopardized our future.

Any support you can offer—whether financial or simply sharing our story—would mean the world to us.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity during this difficult time.

Sincerely,
Carey Jordan
