Edmonia Lewis Grave Restoration
Donation protected
Edmonia Lewis was born in Greenbush, NY in 1844. Her mother was Chippewa and her father was African American. She over came race and gender prejudice to become a world renowned sculptor. Her works are now in major galleries such as the Smithsonian in Washington, DC. Unfortunately for most of the 20th century, she has been forgotten....until now with the reawakening of the appreciation for her great talent and beautiful works of sculpture. It is a sad shame her grave is in the condition it is in St. Mary's Cemetery in London, England. Hopefully, that will no longer be the case with your donations.
