On September 26th, Hurricane Helene devastated Asheville and the surrounding communities. I never thought I’d be among its victims. My practice, HAVEN Chiropractic, sits on a hill high above the Swannanoa River. Though I’ve watched the river rise during flash floods, I never imagined it could surge high enough to cover the street and rise 25 feet—flooding my newly redecorated office where I’ve treated patients for the past seven years.

The good news: My home and children are safe. Considering we live in, Swannanoa, one of the hardest-hit areas, this feels like a miracle.

The bad news: HAVEN Chiropractic Posture & Scoliosis has been severely damaged. My specialized posture correction equipment, used to treat hundreds of patients, is completely destroyed. It’s a total loss. As you can imagine, I’m pretty devastated and it’s been a lot to process. Insurance has denied my claim because the damage was caused by flooding. FEMA directed me to the SBA, but taking on another loan on top of an existing pandemic-related loan is unsustainable for my small practice.

I’m reaching out to my community for help. Your support will help restore the only practice offering these specialized services within a 100-mile radius and enable me to continue supporting the wonderful people in Asheville and beyond.

Why This Matters: My name is Alaina Gelineau, and I’ve proudly called Asheville home for the last 11 years. Shortly after finishing chiropractic college, my family and I moved here to start a practice and a new chapter in life. I’ve worked hard to build a unique service here, offering specialized posture correction and scoliosis management to people from all over Western North Carolina, Johnson City, TN, and Greenville, SC.

HAVEN Chiropractic Posture & Scoliosis has become a lifeline for so many, and I’m determined to rebuild and continue serving our community. I’ve weathered many storms, but Hurricane Helene has challenged us in unimaginable ways. I’m not giving up.
