Odette: Restore homes & livelihoods for families

Typhoon Rai/Odette tore through the Philippines in December 2021 killing hundreds of people and destroying the homes and livelihoods of millions. While the international aid agencies are on the ground to give large scale emergency support, this fundraiser is to support 40 specific families who are close to our hearts.
Our friend and Sensei Michael Mccavish and his young family luckily survived the storm but their home at Saavedra Moalboal near Cebu was damaged - as were the houses of 40 families who rely on Michael's small beachfront resort for their livelihoods. Nearly every one of the chefs, bar staff, builders, house-keepers and local suppliers lost their roofs in the 240km winds and many wider family members had businesses and equipment damaged.
We are asking Michael's friends and networks around the world to help him help his community. They have a plan and a lot of work ahead, but just urgently need cash assistance for emergency food supplies, home reconstruction, fishing boat repair and the purchase of damaged equipment to restart their businesses.
We are aiming to raise £8,000 ($US10,000) and here are some ideas about how your support will help:
• £30 (US$67) would feed one of the families for a week
• £350 (US$470) would repair a roof
• £1,000 (US$1,350) would buy a new fishing boat
In a tourist-based community that was already hard-hit economically due to Covid, your support will allow these 40 families to bounce back and rebuild their lives. Please donate today and share this with anyone you think would be interested via social media.
