Restore Hope for Gwendolyn's Family Post-Hurricane

Hi. My name is Gwendolyn Torres. I live in the Forest Hills area of Tampa, Florida. My family home has been ruined due to water intrusion from Hurricane Milton. My family had to be evacuated by the National Guard through a window. Anyone who knows me knows my children and grandchildren are my life.

We are all currently homeless. We have lost so much. Waiting on homeowners insurance and FEMA to see what help we can get, but in the meantime, we need to salvage what we can and start the process of cleaning out the house and throwing everything out. The water damage was sewage from retention ponds that did not pump due to loss of power. We have been without power for five days. We are all separated until we can find alternate housing as our house is currently uninhabitable. Kids lost most of their shoes, clothes, and toys. We were not in an evacuation zone. We were not prepared. We are heartbroken. Anything will help with repairs or replacement of necessary things to maintain and hotels or other housing options. We will need a storage unit to be able to clear out what we can salvage.

Ryan and Kayla and the kids are currently in a hotel with their three kids. I've been an hour away with Christopher at my daughter Aysia's. To add to all this my parents also didn't have power for five days. No one is in a financial place to afford all the damage repairs or to pay for hotels. Kayla needs to go back to work and so do I, but with no place to live or lay our heads or put our stuff it makes it difficult to even think about that. Anything that was on the floor or up to 2 fr of water has been destroyed. Furniture, kids items. Doors. The damage to my car is still currently unknown.
