Restore Hope for Laney After Hurricane Helene

Laney Barnett is loved and known by many as a creative spirit, a nature enthusiast, a kind soul, wise beyond her 22 years of life. The type of person who will lock eyes with you in group settings when you’ve all but given up on finishing your thought. She’s a true optimist, resilient when faced with any hardship, and she needs your help to get back on her feet.

On Friday, September 27, Hurricane Helene ravaged the North Carolina mountains, causing historic flooding and catastrophic damage in the region. As the French Broad River crested at 30 feet, the fortunate ones lost power and water – others’ homes were reduced to debris. Laney, a musician and whitewater rafting guide in Fairview, NC, sheltered in her camper van until heavy rains began to seep through the roof. She fled to safety before mudslides made travel impossible, but her van and personal belongings were destroyed. Perhaps equally as devastating, the place she calls home is forever changed, childhood memories distorted by the wasteland, her livelihood now just a memory as the Asheville Outpost washed away.

In times of true tragedy, it’s hard to know the best way to support those in need – this is an opportunity to directly impact someone’s life. Laney is currently in temporary housing, left wondering how to move forward. This fund will go toward purchasing a new camper van and fulfilling Laney’s most basic human needs until the roads are restored and she can reasonably find a new job.
