Restore Hope for the Meagher Family

On September 27th, 2024 just days after closing on their dream home in Chimney Rock, North Carolina, the Meagher family’s new beginning turned into a nightmare. The devastating impact of Hurricane Helene, as captured in National Sky 4 News coverage, swept through their property, destroying not only their house but the entire community around them. Bridges to their land have been washed away, leaving them without access and a home they will never see again.

The Meaghers, originally from Mound, Minnesota, thought they had found a safe haven after enduring two hurricanes in Florida, which had already claimed one of their daughter’s homes. Chimney Rock was meant to be a place of peace for their retirement—a fresh start in the scenic hills of North Carolina.

The heartbreak comes on the heels of another devastating blow: their mother’s recent diagnosis of Stage 3B colon cancer. Just days after Christmas last year, she underwent emergency surgery and has been enduring grueling rounds of chemotherapy ever since. With her unable to work and their father facing a heavy financial burden, the storm’s destruction is more than they can bear alone.

What was supposed to be a place of recovery and renewal for a couple who spent their lives working hard has turned into an unimaginable loss. Their home, their belongings, and their security are gone. This biblical-scale disaster has left them needing to rebuild their lives entirely—somewhere unknown for now.

We are asking for your support to help the Meaghers recover and start anew. Funds will go toward rebuilding their lives: securing new housing, replacing essential personal belongings lost, and covering ongoing cost of living including medical expenses for their mother’s cancer treatment. Mom is on disability and unable to work. They have no other investments, real estate or inheritances to fall back on .
