Restore Hope: Rebuild Union Island Together

You may have heard about the devastating impact of Hurricane Beryl in the Eastern Caribbean. Union Island, a tiny gem just three-square miles in size and part of St. Vincent and the Grenadines archipelago, has been hit hard. The island has seen 99% of homes destroyed, its hospital, schools, faith-based organizations, shelters, businesses, and even its airport have been obliterated.

This devastation is personal to us. Why, you ask? Well, Union Island isn’t just any island—it’s our island. We were conceived, born, and raised there, our navel string is buried there. This little island is where we learned our ABCs and our life lessons. It’s the place that turned many of us from a wide-eyed child into the persons you see today.

Imagine, if you will, the island's hospital—where many Unionites first screamed their way into the world—now silenced. The schools that bore witness to our early academic years, now in rubbles. The churches that heard our childhood prayers, the businesses that thrived with the hustle and bustle of daily life, all gone. And yes, the homes where many of us were conceived, birthed, and raised, now lost to the storm. Moreover, the loss of beloved family members, schoolmates, and neighbors to this storm is heart wrenching, adding to the collective grief of our tight-knit community.

But in typical Union Island spirit, we won’t be kept down for long. We have started the clean-up phase. We are reaching out to you, not just to share the story of this calamity, but to rally some hope and additional support to aid in the rebuilding.
