Upkeep Magly Field West High Cowboys

**Update! The school district has approved plans for restoring the track. These funds will be used to help up keep the stadium and grounds, including but not limited to painting the stadium, lawn care, power washing, etc.**

Named after the original Principal of West High School in 1908, Magly Field has been the home of the West High Cowboys since the school was moved to its permanent location on South Powell Avenue in 1926. It’s apparent that other than the occasional patch work, the facilities have not been updated since then either. 

Being a Cowboy used to come with a sense of pride felt throughout the Westside of Columbus. Now, it unfortunately comes with a sense of shame. The football stadium is in such disrepair that it feels unsafe to even sit on. Stadium lights are so old that special lifts have to be brought in to change lights bulbs, which just translates to them never being changed. The scoreboard is operational but some of the numbers don’t work. No worries, that just gives our opponents an extra advantage here and there. The restrooms attached to the stadium are something straight out of a horror film. 

Our track is not regulation size and that is unchangeable. However, these kids deserve to at least be able to practice or even walk on the track without breaking an ankle. We aren’t wanting miracles but we just want the basics needs of our sports teams met. 

The concrete and pavement around the stadium are busted and broken. We have family members and visitors in wheelchairs and with walkers that are unable to safely enter the stadium. 

All in all, our kids deserve a respectable stadium and our visiting teams deserve to feel safe when coming to West High.
