Restore My Late Grandfather's Karmann Ghia
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Brian. I run This Day in Automotive History and I need your help honoring my late grandfather. I am asking for donations to assist with the restoration costs of his 1974 Karmann Ghia. I hope to have this car at my wedding in August in his memory, but I have a long ways to go and a short time to get there.
Today, 02/22/2022, is my birthday, and I hope you can help me make this gift a reality. The photo up top was taken the day my grandfather sold me the Volkswagen Karmann he owned since 1976. The car was a source of joy for him and our family for many years. However, by the time I received the car in June 2014, it had been sitting for 20 years. He only sold it on the condition that I promised him I'd get it running again. With the help of a few, I was able to do so by Christmas of that year. That was the last time he saw it drive.
I've done a ton of work on this car already. The metalwork has been completed and it's now virtually rust free. The Ghia still needs plenty to get back on the road. From sandblasting and painting to rewiring and reinstalling the interior. While there are some things I intend to do myself, this project has grown beyond my capabilities, especially given the limited time frame and the constraints of, well, being an adult. I have several people lined up and ready to work on the vehicle. All I need is to be able to pay them for their time.
Please, every dollar given will go toward getting this car back on the road. It's a chance for my last remaining grandparent, my grandmother, to see her husband's pride and joy back on the road. This isn't just for me; it's for my entire family. This car is far too sentimental to ever let leave our family and it will be passed on someday.
The truth is, whether we are car people or not, we all have a vehicle that means something special to us. This is that car for me and many others near to me. Whether you've been a fan of This Day in Automotive History or not, I appreciate you considering a donation. Thank you.
