Restore River Knoll: Support Essential Community Repairs
Donation protected
We are the River Knoll community, located along the Swannanoa River in East Asheville. When Hurricane Helene struck, our small neighborhood of 45 homes endured devastating impacts. Half of our community—23 homes—suffered massive losses, from treasured personal belongings to extensive structural damage.
Beyond these personal hardships, our only access road was severely compromised. The storm left the riverbank, which runs right alongside this road, deeply eroded. Community amenities that we rely on daily were also lost: our mailbox kiosks and dumpster enclosures were swept away. Because we are a homeowners association, FEMA assistance won’t cover these shared community losses.
We are seeking to raise an initial $75,000 to help us begin to restore a sense of normalcy. This fund will go toward essential community repairs: replacing the mailbox kiosk, building a small shelter for it, and restoring our dumpster and recycling enclosures—these previously existing structures all literally went down the river. Funds will also be used towards making our roads safe again which will necessitate stabilizing the riverbank. These will be huge expenditures which our little community cannot do on its own.
For a community like ours—mostly retirees with limited resources—these costs are overwhelming. Every dollar donated helps us move closer to recovery, and we truly appreciate any support. All funds raised will go directly toward repairing and replacing these shared amenities that sustain our community life.
Thank you for helping us rebuild.
