Restore the Survivor's Memorial

The Survivor's Memorial was the nation's first permanent memorial honoring survivors of sexual violence. It is a sacred space to lift up and acknowledge the incredible work of our families and community members to rise above and move past the trauma of sexual violence.

 

The memorial is amazing. On the bank of the Mississippi River, on a rolling hill surrounded by trees. It is an incredible art installation by the local artist Lori Greene. In pieces of broken tiles, the mosaics walk the visitor through stages of trauma and recovery in the context of community. Inspiring. It is truly a sacred space.

 

Vandalized. Desecrated.

 

 

The damage was discovered on May 16th. Someone dug out the donation pavers. Destroying some and using others like a hammer to deface the granite sign and violently crush the tiles pieces on four of the panels.

 

The memorial was built with $730,000 of donations. This included a fund for maintenance. The maintenance fund did not include money to replace this type of intentional violence against the memorial. The damage will require relaying the bricks and supporting the artist to restore the mosaic panels. It will not be cheap.

 

Please help with a contribution to help replace the bricks, restore the mosaic and sanctify this important memorial. All of the donated money will be provided to the Minneapolis Park Board dedicated for use exclusively on the Survivor's Memorial. Any extra funds collected will replenish the Memorial's maintenance fund.
