Healing Charlotte's Heart

Charlotte Ramirez (wife of Juan Martínez) is someone who takes the ups and downs of life as they come: unflinchingly and with her arms wide open. As a mother of two, wife, daughter, sister, early childhood educator, and licensed social worker, Charlotte commits herself daily to the wellbeing, education, and joy of so many of us.

When she tested positive for COVID on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, she weathered her moderate symptoms as many of us have—at home and trying to rest. Though Charlotte is fully vaccinated, the unpredictable happened: The virus targeted her heart to such an extent that she is now in a medically induced coma and fighting for her life.

On Monday, July 18, 2022, Charlotte was flown to a heart hospital in Texas and is in the care of some of the country’s best cardiologists. In order to be by her side over the next several months, Charlotte’s family will need to travel back and forth many times, which will certainly take a financial toll. In addition to travel expenses, the family will face significant and unexpected out-of-pocket medical expenses resulting from Charlotte’s ongoing care. For these reasons, we (Gerardo, Juan Martínez’s brother and Mia, wife of Gerardo), are working to raise funds to provide support for Charlotte, Juan, and their two young children as they walk through this difficult time. Just as Charlotte does for us, we know that our community will give in any way we can and with great love.
