There are many ways in which we can aid and assist each other, whether it be helping someone cross the street, helping a friend or neighbor, or donating to charity. The deed is easily done.
It is much harder for us to make a commitment to a total stranger, someone who is not in our family or circle of friends. Yet these strangers also need our assistance from time to time.
Here are two strangers whom we did not know, but who could benefit from our financial support. This is the last thing we can do to help them rest in peace for eternity.
Our final resting place is the last earthly space we will ever call our own, and I believe every person deserves a dignified burial site where they can rest in peace for eternity.
My name is Beverly, and recently, while visiting my late father's gravesite, I noticed two nearby burial plots that had been completely neglected. They stood in stark contrast to the surrounding graves, which were marked by beautiful granite headstones and protected by sturdy cement coverings.
Seeing those barren plots broke my heart. The markers had deteriorated so badly that it was difficult to make out the names or dates of the individuals buried there. No one should be forgotten in this way. Every life matters, and every person deserves to be remembered with dignity.
Determined to learn more, I reached out to the head of the mortuary. He was unaware of the condition of these plots, as the burials had been handled by a different mortuary a number of years earlier. After doing some research, he shared the story of the couple laid to rest there.
What he discovered was heartbreaking. They had no surviving family members left to care for their graves or preserve their memory. There was no one left to maintain their burial sites or ensure that their names would live on.
I could not stop thinking about them.
I knew in my heart that they deserved better. No one should be forgotten simply because they have no one left to speak for them.
The head of the mortuary was touched by my desire to help and generously offered to provide cement slabs to protect their graves. In addition, he has agreed to engrave the headstones if I can raise the funds needed to provide them.
That is now my mission.
My goal is to give this couple the beautiful and dignified memorial they deserve, ensuring that their names and memories are preserved for generations to come. I believe there are compassionate people who will be moved by their story and want to help make a difference.
Together, we can honor two lives that might otherwise be forgotten and provide them with the lasting tribute they deserve.
Once this goal has been met, any remaining funds will be donated to Chabad of Northridge and Chevra Kadisha Mortuary to assist other families who may need financial support for burial expenses. In this way, your generosity will continue helping others receive the dignity and respect they deserve during life's most difficult moments.
We would appreciate if you would forward to anyone you think would be interested in supporting this mission or share to your social media. Thank you for your much needed support.
