Building non-profit prosthetics center in Ukraine

Donation protected
As a result of countless mines, artillery strikes, and drone blasts, it is estimated that between 20,000 to 50,000 people in Ukraine have lost their limbs.

Experienced volunteers, doctors, and U.S. non-profit organizations, supported by the government of Ukraine, have come together to address one of the most overlooked and under-funded problems in the country. A massive number of people who have lost their limbs don't have access to even basic prosthetics and rehabilitation procedures. With the expertise and a strong will to help these individuals, UHuman Fund (501(c)(3)) and the Charitable Foundation 'Volunteer Front' (Ukraine) are raising $90,000 to complete the first stage of restoring and equipping an 8,600 sq. ft. facility to immediately service those who have lost their limbs due to war.

The 'New Life' project will encompass the following equipment and services, which will be provided for free to Ukrainians who have lost their limbs due to war:
  • Prosthetics (Provided by Penta Medical Recycling).
  • Fitment & adjustment.
  • Training (walking).
  • Physical & mental rehabilitation.
  • Assistance with further education and employment.

"The problem is getting bigger every day, yet it is still being overlooked. We constantly have people turning to us in search of either good quality prosthetics and/or expertise to ensure quality care. Rehabilitation processes are not taken seriously, making it hard for people who have lost their limbs to get back to normal life."

(Andrii Lychachov, Founder/CEO of 'Volunteer Front.’)

Having relocated from Kharkiv to Cherkasy due to the war, I initiated additional volunteering activities. I swiftly identified a significant unmet need among individuals who had lost their limbs. Fortunately, this region was home to many highly experienced prosthetists and doctors who were eager to assist. Step by step, they began aiding people and quickly garnered the support of the mayor and international non-profits. Thanks to their ongoing efforts, the government granted their non-profit a building that they could restore and equip to help even more people, incorporating rehabilitation processes according to the highest standards.

Multiple doctors, prosthetists, volunteers, and experts are dedicated to the 'New Life' project.

A vision from Ukrainian architects once the full project is complete. The first stage will restore 1/3 of the building, providing fully equipped exam and procedure rooms to deliver quality care. The exterior will also receive a complete 'facelift.'

The second stage of the project will involve completing the restoration of the remaining 2/3 of the building (both interior and exterior), and adding 'inpatient' housing for 30 people, incorporating comprehensive physical and mental rehabilitation monitoring. It is expected that the 'New Life' project will assist 1,000 - 1,500 people per month once fully completed.

Phase 1: $90,000 (3-6 months).
  • Equipment & Consumables
