Retinal Surgery and Support for Nels
Donation protected
It's out of character for Nels to ask for support, but we all need help sometimes.
He started having issues with the vision in his left eye after we got back from the wedding. His symptoms were consistent with a retinal tear and detachment, but the optometrist we saw diagnosed him incorrectly. Due to the lack of swift attention, his retina detached over the next two days. The emergency eye clinic in OK was able to get us in to see an amazing retina specialist here in Denver who performed surgery on Thursday 12/3. Because of the delay in attention and condition of his retina, she initially gave us a lower expectation for full recovery, but once she we actually performing the surgery, everything looked a lot better than expected. The surgery went really well, the surgeon was very pleased!
The post-op healing process will have him out of commission for a few weeks, and it can be up to 6 months before he regains the full capacity of his vision. This will impact his ability to work for a while. He's asking for support in any way you feel compelled. Certainly not everyone reading this can help monetarily, but we also believe strongly in the power of positive, healing thoughts and prayers.
Thank you for your love, support and community.
