Retired Seattle PD "Bear" Surgery Fundraiser
Donation protected
Police Dog Bear retired from Seattle Police/WA State's Internet Crimes Against Children task force on August 31, 2021. Bear worked on the task force as an Electronic Storage Detection K9 - using his nose to sniff out evidence leading to the indictment of child predators.
Now, at 10, Bear is suffering from chronic bacterial infections in his left ear and is now exhibiting neurological symptoms, because of his inner ear being compromised from scarring and bone calcifications. The bacterial infection also spread to his skin, forming painful "raw" spots all over his body. Multiple rounds of oral antibiotics, steroids, special order compounded ear drops, a prescription antibacterial skin soak, and more, have only provided temporary relief and won't prevent further infections or hearing loss. To ensure his remaining quality of life, we've opted for surgical intervention.
What is a Tecabo surgery?
"The term TECA-BO is an abbreviation for Total Ear Canal Ablation and Bulla Osteotomy. This surgery involves the complete removal of the ear canal and tympanic bulla (middle ear), leaving only the pinna (ear flap) remaining."
The cost of his ongoing care has already exceeded what is afforded to us through the generosity of the Retired Seattle Police Canine Fund, thus the need to raise the money for the surgery totaling $7,770 and it could be more depending on post-surgical complications.
ALL funds raised will go towards his surgery and any extra will be donated to the Retired Seattle Police Canine Fund to help out other retired K9s in need. Could you "pawsibly" help fund his surgery?
