Dutch composer Johan de Meij, who achieved world fame with his Symphony No. 1 The Lord of the Rings, has been commissioned to write a new symphony, to be premiered under the baton of the maestro himself at Valparaiso University on November 3, 2018 during The Past, Present, and Future of Tolkien Scholarship international conference. The new work is entitled Symphony No. 5 Return to Middle Earth, scored for large wind orchestra, soprano solo and choir, and again inspired by the mythological world of J.R.R. Tolkien.
