Healthy Babies for Brian and Emily
Donation protected
Hi Everyone,
Thank you all so much for taking the time to read about our fundraiser. Many of you already know about my skin condition and the steps Emily and I are taking to prevent our children from inheriting Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). EB is a genetic condition where the protein anchors holding the skin together are defective, causing the skin to blister.
There is a process called Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) which can actually prevent our children from having this painful condition. We are starting the process of In-vitro Fertilization with PGD and will hopefully be on our way to a healthy baby in a few months.
IVF will cost us close to $11,000 not including medications, ultrasounds and additional testing. The PGD needed to prevent passing EB onto our children will cost an additional $5,000-$8,000. There are some options for financial assistance through our IVF clinic, but unfortunately we do not qualify for them as we will be using PGD. These assistance programs are aimed at families struggling with infertility.
We have been saving our pennies, but we are still a ways away from affording the treatments we need to have a healthy baby. We are hoping to raise $15,000 to help cover the costs of IVF, PGD and medication. Even the smallest donation or just sharing our story would help us tremendously.
If you would like to learn more about Epidermolysis Bullosa or the steps we are ta king to prevent passing it on, please visit: http://endingeb.blogspot.com/
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for your continued love and support through this long process.
