Reuben and Susie

As many of you have heard via the broadcast, Reuben FastHorse is going through some extremely difficult medical issues due to a severe head injury. He sustained the injury several months ago, but it came back and attacked him with a vengence. He suffered from blood on his brain that left him with nearly all the symptoms of a severe stroke. We all thought we were going to lose him a few weeks ago. And he is not yet out of the woods.

Reuben has been hospitalized in the ICU for many weeks, unable to form cogent words and sentences, despite recognizing Susie and others. He has been paralyzed on his right side, but that, too, is showing some signs of minor improvement. The hospital wants to move him to a rehabilitation facility, and this is where the financial difficulty starts.

It seems that his insurance is refusing to cover these costs. Additionally, Susie - who also is undergoing treatment for neurological issues that stem from a severe head injury she incurred several years ago, is nearly unable to drive to spend time with Reuben, or do all the travel that she needs to do to help him. Susie is at wit's end and is heartbroken over this whole matter with Reuben.

There are many more details that would best be served in conversation or by catching updates on the broadcast. Suffice it to say that there is an enormous need for support - emotional, financial and spiritual - from all those of us who love this man, my misu - my "little brother."

Your support, as small or big as you can manage, will help Reuben and Susie keep their heads above the water and survive during what is sure to be a lengthy healing process for Reuben. I set a financial goal only because it was required in the application, here on GoFundMe, but I am sure they could use many times that amount.

Please, lead with your mind and follow-through with your heart. Sure, we all have our own issues to deal with in life, but Reuben and Susie sure could use our help, right about now.
