Reunite Somali Mother and Daughter

Raising funds for a close family member of mine to reunite with her mother after 35 years of separation. The goal is what it costs for her travel expenses to visit Somalia. The funds will also support both her family abroad and family locally while she's away.

As a Somali Muslim daughter, my own parents went decades without seeing my grandparents. I remember the toll it took on my mother and father. They stored a surmounting pressure of guilt. They felt like they abandoned their own parents, even when they had no choice but to seek refuge with their newborn child(ren) and flee from war.

I vividly recall how it transformed their spirits once they were blessed to finally hold their parent(s) in their arms again. Now that my grandparents have sadly passed, these final memories are what allow my mother and father to cope and experience a profound sense of peace.

It is important that we try to prevent the grief our elders endure when they are forced to live a life without re-embracing the people who birthed and/or raised them. We can help avoid this from being a traumatic cycle of Somalia's cultural legacy. I hope you can find it in your heart to afford someone with this priceless reunion. Let alone for a tirelessly giving woman like my relative who continues to give back to our Somali youth.
