Revitalize our DGS Community Garden!
Tax deductible
In 2019, the Dig it, Grow it, Share it (DGS) Community Garden was founded with the intent of creating a verdant escape in the heart of Phoenix. Since then, the community has gotten together to dig, plant, haul, clear, build, and beautify this charming space.
Recently, new leadership and a board were established to manage and grow the project! We plan to enrich DGS with our fresh ideas, fostering an even more inviting space while improving the overall gardening experience for our members and the community.
The funds that we are hoping to raise will be used for the following:
Sustaining the Garden
- Bulk debris removal and implementing trash services.
- Restructure the composting program (construction of a fence to maintain city compliance).
- Arborist assessment and maintenance/removal of trees.
- Repairing the solar system that powers the garden.
- Upgrading website.
- Monthly rental of a portal toilet to support future events at the garden.
Revitalizing the Space
- Spruce up the community garden entrance.
- Add more general seating and furniture.
- Freshen and improve the meditation area.
- Relocate and build a new hardscaped firepit area.
- Addition of fruit trees and flowering native perennials to support native bees, hummingbirds, and other wildlife.
Improving the Gardener's Experience
- Maintenance and materials for plots.
- Removal of bermuda grass and weeds.
- Upgrading signage for clear instructions and terms of use of space.
- Adding 15-20 more gardening plots.
- Running irrigation to the new gardening plots.
- Creating a fund for future gardeners who need start-up assistance, or need monthly sponsorship.
Funds that are raised that go beyond our $5,000 goal would be used for the construction of the following:
- New shade structures.
- Mushroom shed.
- Insect/reptile hotel.
- A pond.
