Revive a Local Artisan’s Dream Today

MY STORY: I started a business called Cardinal Designs. It is located in the River Arts District of Asheville, NC, and was totally destroyed in Hurricane Helene. Everything I worked for over the past 4 years was buried under 11 feet of water and 4 inches of toxic mud, so it was all ruined. I lost all of my equipment, natural dyes, and most of my inventory except what I had put in my car before the storm.

The grand total of my items when I calculated it was $45,000, including some irreplaceable quilts, weavings, and memorabilia.

Most people here have a tragic story, so I understand there is much need. I would like to get back on my feet. I was contributing to a more non-toxic and eco-friendly world through natural dyes, clothing, classes I was teaching, and people adored my work. So to help me is to help others directly and indirectly.

My video shows the magical process of natural indigo oxidizing on fabric, which is what I mostly worked with. But I also made and sold natural dye kits with 6 colors, natural dye seed kits with 9 species of seeds, shirts (adult and children’s), tea towels, napkins, bandanas, yarn, fabric, and more.

I will use this money to purchase replacement equipment: adult and child tee shirts, natural dyes, stencils, marketing materials like stickers, business cards and posters to replace what I lost). As well as a tee shirt press, Square credit card processor and iPad for my art shows, displays like clothing racks, baskets, and wooden displays for products I make.

It is a lot because it was a total loss. Our building had no buffer between itself and the river, so we sustained a direct hit of Mother Nature.
