Revive the Historic Texas Pool Slide

Tax deductible
After many years under the hot Texas sun, our big blue slide saw its last sunset and, for safety’s sake, had to be removed. Slides are a Texas Pool tradition. With your help, the 501c3 nonprofit Texas Pool Foundation plans to purchase a new slide for many more years of slippery sliding fun in the sun!

Texas Pool Slide History

The historic Texas Pool opened in Plano's new Dallas North Estates neighborhood in 1961. It's now listed in the National Register for Historic Places as the very first Texas-shaped pool in the country.

Photo archives show that when the pool opened, it featured a diving board, a high-dive and a single slide located near the "North Texas" section of the pool.

Families enjoyed that original slide every summer until at least the late 80s. Then in 1990, photos show a very similar slide in a new location -- near the "Midland/Odessa" section of the pool.

The pool has no slide in a photo dated 1997.

In the early 2000s, improvements were made to the Texas Pool. The big blue slide was installed, along with a smaller blue toddler slide and a wooden "West Texas" deck.

The little blue slide was replaced with a little yellow slide in 2012 after it was vandalized.

"Big Blue" has been a source of family fun and incredible memories at the Texas Pool for more than two decades. While we're sad it's gone, we look forward to seeing what comes next.

Every Dollar Helps

New slides can be pretty pricey. But we feel confident that with support from our community, local businesses, and the city of Plano, the Texas Pool's slide tradition will return soon! Your donation will be set aside in a separate fund and used to purchase a similar slide or other recreational water feature.

Corporate sponsors and donors are invited to share in preserving Texas Pool tradition and history. Donations to the nonprofit Texas Pool Foundation, are tax deductible (minus the fair market value of goods, or services provided by the charity). A tax receipt will be provided.
